Tekla project completed successfully
A £46m upgrade has been carried out at the Horsley Water Treatment Works. Lionweld Kennedy, a specialist contractor on the project, chose Contract Design to provide additional Tekla Structures design and draughting support to their in-house design teams. Working in close collaboration with L-K’s own drawing office, structural engineers and project managers, CD delivered the full project which consisted of approval and construction issue GA drawings along with fully detailed models and fabrication packages of drawings, reports and CNC data.
The project comprised both steel and GRP structures including; stair-towers, personnel walkways, access platforms, ladders and equipment supports which required sophisticated details to be developed to facilitate a seamless interface with the civil and mechanical requirements and details, which was delivered over a 12 month design programme, approximately 1,000 man hours and regular face to face design meetings.
Karl Wrightson, Group Technical Manager for the Lionweld Group, said; “We can rely on Contract Design to develop accurate, cost effective and practical designs, which is why we choose to work closely with them when we need support on challenging projects. We welcome their refreshingly proactive approach to solving design issues and communication of information, which keep projects moving.”
Norway Opportunities on the Rise
CAD Software Upgraded
|CD have completed an upgrade to several of their CAD workstations to Inventor Pro 2018, Autodesk Pro Vault 2018 and SolidWorks to carry out a major new 3D modelling project for a Client in the automotive sector.|
Work has been completed on a 3D modelling, draughting and detailing project for the new build Hinkley C nuclear power station. In-house work included conveyors, chutes, roller systems, gantries, hoppers, stools, dust guards etc.
Motion analysis was also carried out to ensure there were no clashes. Autodesk Inventor 2017 was used for the modelling and draughting of the project.
Pipe Stress Analysis_
An in-house pipe stress analysis project has recently been completed on a CALM buoy and subsea PLEM offloading system for a West African based project.
Pipe stresses were analysed to include current and wave motions. Analysis included code compliance checks, nozzle loads, fatigue analysis & vibration assessment using Caesar II.
Offshore Windfarm Substation
Contract Design are nearing the successful completion of the topside & jacket detail design for a UK sector offshore windfarm substation. The substation will integrate the power generated by the 56 offshore turbines and export it via a single subsea cable to shore. The electricity generated by the offshore turbines will be sufficient to power 330,000 UK households annually.
Contract Design has applied all of their experience of topside and jacket design accumulated over the past 30 years to deliver a cost effective, practical, fabrication friendly design.
To accommodate a growing in-house engineering team CD recently relocated to smart new open plan offices at Bulman House near Regent Centre.
The new offices were purchased to provide a better long term work environment for the business and with more than 40 CAD workstations offer more flexibility and capacity for all of CD's Clients.
"Contract Design pass the million hour milestone"
QEC Aircraft Carrier Project
CDN involvement from 2004 to date: Design from initial concept through to fabrication of QEC aircraft carriers for UK MOD. Clients include BMT, Babcock, BAe Systems etc.
Turnover £2.5m per annum. CD design staff have now passed the one million invoiced hours marker on this project to date
Contract Design complete FPSO engineering project
The CDN design team have recently completed two part projects based at our clients office location. Our team provided Structural Design, Structural Engineering and Pipe Stress analysis services for an FPSO conversion and a Mooring Bouy project.
Technical Director comments "CD personnel provided a first class service and we look forward to using CD's expertise on future projects".
Automotive Work Awarded
CDN are starting work on a project on behalf of Comau to design 3D models of automotive jigs and produce manufacturing drawings from Catia Models.
